chic chie...

While I was out doing the sad, short shopping tour of downtown last week, I popped into the renovated Browns store to look at a little shoe porn.  Sure enough, the store is now very glossy and styly and some stunning Chie Mihara shoes were displayed near the window (an exclusive colour to the store?).  I hadn't seen these puppies before- admittedly a difficult, not to mention expensive, colourful shoe.  I gleefully shoved my foot into the tiny display model (no sense getting too comfortable...) and loved the contrast with the beloved Icon Trench.

But since we be frugal colour-addicts, here's my Value Village silk scarf compromise (until uh maybe this difficult shade goes wayyyyy on sale.  If you're desperate and have $400 to blow, you can get 'em here!)
J Crew cardigan and t-shirt, UO skirt and belt, Kurt Geiger hi-tops, thrifted silk scarf
I kinda felt bad (and pleased) today, as a woman stopped me in the metro station to ask where I found my trench coat.  She said she'd been looking for the perfect one forever and was pretty darn sad there was no J Crew around town...

(Aw...manfriend just came home and said I looked like I should be cooking dinner in a house on chicken legs- he knows how to go straight to my heart!  Good old Baba Yaga!)

  2. I like your tennis shoes and you can tell the manfriend I said so. Totally understand the turquoise shoe love, but i would have to wait for the sale too.

  3. Those SHOES! Oh my they are lovely.

I really like your longer skirt and the general vibe of the outfit, but I also gravitate toward borderline-witchy layers and I love that Baba Yaga image.

  6. Your manfriend said what now?!
Those blue Chie Mihara shoes are like nothing i've seen before..i mean look at that gorgeous colour. Geez. We aussies are so behind. Looks fantastic with your trench - the right amount of pop!
And i feel sorry for the lady who asked about your trench. How disappointing it must be to pluck up the courage to ask someone on the streetabout their outfit then find out it's quite impossible to get!

  7. I think my head just exploded. I die for those Chies. And you're color combination with the casual chic sneakers are rocking my world. Tilting it on it's axis.

  9. What a unique pair of shoes. But 400 dollar....I think I would even avoid putting it on so I wouldn't be tormented by the desire of owning them.

  10. Did you have to pay hefty duties, taxes, and shipping costs to get your JCrew trench to Canada? I've been contemplating ordering online but the inflated prices are scary. By the way, your trench looks great, and the colour is so unique. Hope JCrew has another sale soon!

  11. Thanks for all the comments guys (way to try and talk me into desiring the shoes!)

StephC- there are the hefty duty fees and taxes, but there are also constant promos on the J Crew website (you can find these and more at J Crew Aficionada) so I only ever order when there is a free shipping promo and extra discounts on sale merchandise to counteract the fees! You can also take your chances with mailing by Canada Post, where you may be charged duty on arrival- many people seem to be lucky with this and avoid supplementary fines, but I always get stuck with the full duties from my post office so it's easier for me to just suck-it-up and go for the UPS shipping...

  12. Thanks for the info!
    It was very helpful.
I ordered online from Anthro once and swore never to do that again. I ended up paying an extra 1/3 of the price. Ouch. Too bad the Icon trench is not available in JCrew stores (only online), as I have a trip coming up at Easter! :(

  17. holy shoes. those are fabulous, and I feel like it's the kind of color that would quickly render itself pleasing with any outfit. much in the same manner that red and leopard are neutrals. I hope they go on sale very very soon! in the interim, the scarf is a wonderful compromise :)

  19. Ugh, it's too bad those shoes are $400 because they certainly do look great with the icon trench. I hope they go on sale so they can be yours. The colour is magnificent!

  20. Great stories. I wouldn't have splurged at $400 but the shoes actually look pretty darn wearable to me.

I found the different ones, and still thinking if they can be a good substitute
